Do I Have to Toast the Hazelnut Pieces?
You definitely do not have to toast the hazelnut pieces, but toasting them before adding them to the slaw really adds to the overall crunchiness and flavor.
If you’re really short on time, you can skip the toasting step and still get an amazing result. But if you do happen to have an extra minute or two, toasting the hazelnut pieces makes for a nuttier, toastier flavor profile.
