These cookies may sound a bit strange, but I promise they’re amazing! These cookies are great to make around the holidays, but you can honestly make them whenever you’re craving an incredibly delicious cookie with just the right hint of peppermint.

Do I Have to Chill the Dough?
Yes! I would recommend chilling for AT LEAST 30 MINUTES before baking. If you have the time, I would recommend chilling the dough overnight! I think this yields the best result in terms of texture, appearance, and flavor. Letting the dough chill for longer allows the peppermint flavor to sink more into the dough while also allowing the dough to really soak in the richness of the butter and sugar.

Freezing Leftover Dough:
This recipe makes quite a big batch of cookies, so after the dough is done chilling in the fridge, I like to freeze whatever cookie dough I don’t bake, so I always have cookies ready to bake whenever I’m craving them!
After you’ve chilled the dough in the fridge for at least 2 hours, mold your cookie dough balls into shape and store in a plastic Ziploc bag or in an airtight container.
When you want to bake them, thaw for about 10 minutes before baking them in the oven.
Useful Tools:
- silicone spatula
- meat tenderizer (to crush peppermint candies and Oreos)
- parchment paper

Oreo Peppermint Chocolate Chunk Cookies
Ingredients
- 1¼ cup unsalted butter room temperature
- 1¼ cup dark brown sugar packed
- 1 cup white sugar
- 1 tsp salt
- 2½ tsp vanilla extract
- 2 large eggs
- 1 tbsp Greek yogurt
- 1¼ tsp baking powder
- 1½ tsp baking soda
- 3¼ cups all-purpose flour
- 4 oz chopped semisweet chocolate
- 1 oz chopped chocolate for topping the cookies
- 20 peppermint candies crushed into small bits
- 15 Oreos crushed into small bits
Instructions
- Mix the butter, brown sugar, and white sugar together in a large mixing bowl until well-combined. Mix in the salt and the vanilla extract. Then, beat in the eggs one at a time until everything is mixed. Add in the Greek yogurt.
- Add in the baking powder and the baking soda one at a time and mix to incorporate with the wet ingredients. Slowly add in the flour (about one cup at a time) and mix until thoroughly combined. Add in the crushed Oreos, crushed peppermint candies, and chopped chocolate into the dough, and use a silicone spatula to mix everything together.
- Place all of the dough onto a large sheet of plastic wrap and cover with another large sheet of plastic wrap. Press and mold the cookie dough until it’s about 1.5 inches thick all around.
- I like to let the dough rest in the fridge overnight, but if you really cannot wait, chill the dough for 30 minutes in the fridge before baking. (Note: Less chill time in the fridge will result in flatter cookies with crisper edges, more chill time will help yield a chewier cookie)
- After your dough is done chilling, preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Prep your baking sheet with some parchment paper, and mold your dough into balls a bit larger than a golf ball. Press down on the top to create a flat, 1.5-inch thick cylinder shape. I fit 6 of these cookie dough flattened balls per baking sheet. If you’d like, feel free to add extra chopped chocolate and peppermint bits onto the tops of the cookies.(Note: If you prefer mini cookies, you can make smaller balls using just one tablespoon of cookie dough and bake for about 8-10 minutes)
- Bake for about 13 minutes depending on how crispy or soft you like the edges of your cookies. Let the cookies rest for about 2-3 minutes before enjoying them!
